PalmPower: Now rechargeable!

palmpower

8/8/2016. Updated review, thanks to the new rechargeable version of the PalmPower!

August 2016 update:

Woo hoo, my beloved little PalmPower now has a rechargeable model, aptly named the PalmPower Recharge. If you’re not familiar with the original PalmPower, read my June 2014 review below, then come back here.

The original model had to be plugged in while you used it. Not a big deal for most of us. But if you want to take your vibrator on a camping trip, or use it with a partner without getting tangled up, or you want to travel light on an overnight, you might have wished that you could charge your PalmPower, then take it away cord-free. Now you can. The PalmPower Recharge comes with a USB cord for recharging, then you can disconnect the cord and play on.

How’s the intensity compared to the corded version? Very similar, not exactly the same. I found the rechargeable a smidgen less intense and a bit more rumbly than the buzzier original model. It’s still powerful, especially given its small size. The design, size, shape are all the same, and the same attachments fit on both. Neither model is waterproof. You can remove and wash the cap (or other attachment), but you can’t use the PalmPower in the bath or the pool, sorry.

If you’ve wished you had a strong, portable, small, uncorded vibrator that didn’t require an outlet during use, the PalmPower Recharge will put a sweet, satisfied smile on your face. If you already have the original and the necessity of using it corded isn’t a significant annoyance, stick with that one.

Many thanks to the Smitten Kitten for sending me the new model, for promoting sex positivity and sex education, and for supporting my mission here. Wonderful folks, those Kittens.

If you’re curious about the ring in the photo above, it’s the Clitoring from Penelopi Jones. The design is the internal clitoris — quite a conversation starter, eh? After I bought mine, I asked if they would offer a discount to my readers and audiences — yep, if you enter “niceprice” in the coupon box, you get 15% off.

palmpowerOriginal review, June 2014:

Drum roll, please: Introducing the PalmPower, a lightweight, ergonomically designed product that packs so much power into a small, silicone topped vibrator that it jumped to #1 on my personal Hit Parade the first time I used it. And the second time. And… you get the picture.

Let me back up. If I were inventing a vibrator that would be perfect for me, at age 70, and for most of you, dear readers over 50, it would have these qualities:

palmpower

  • Really strong.
  • Body-safe materials.
  • Really strong.
  • Lightweight and ergonomic — easy to hold with arthritic wrists for as long as it takes.
  • Really strong.
  • Easy to power on and turn up the intensity, even when fingers and vibrator are well lubed.
  • Really strong.
  • Difficult or impossible to inadvertently decrease intensity, switch to unwanted patterns, or turn off by mistake. (Hate it when that happens!)
  • Really strong.
  • Won’t die, run out of charge, or otherwise kill the buzz (literally and figuratively) for as long as it takes.
  • Really strong.

magic wandUntil last week, the Magic Wand — my favorite since the 1970s — was the clear winner, with all but one of the qualities above. But you know that the Magic Wand, as stellar as it is in every other category, is far from “lightweight.” It’s huge and heavy, but we put up with that because of its world class performance. (And, frankly, it doesn’t take very long to reach our goal with the Magic Wand, so the monster heft of it does no real damage.)

The PalmPower has taken over as my favorite vibrator because it has all the qualities in my list. All of them, including lightweight. Best of all, as small as it is, the vibrations are super strong, strong, STRONG!

Using the PalmPower is simple. Plug it in (it comes with an assortment of plugs for different countries), press the button to turn it on. The longer you hold the button pressed in, the higher the intensity climbs! Release when you get the intensity where you want it, and it will stay there! (Sorry for all the exclamation marks, but I wish all vibrators worked like this.)  Press and release quickly to turn it off. That’s it.

The head of the vibrator is a silicone cap that pulls off easily for cleaning or for trying a different attachment. To put it on, line up the “T” inside the cap with the “T” on the head, and it snaps right on. (I couldn’t get a clear photo of the “T,” sorry.)

palmpower wtih earsI received two of the four possible attachments — one with narrow “ears” and one with widely spaced “ears.”

palmpower with wide earsYou can use the main cap and/or these attachments for honest-to-goodness massage, and the “ears” are also fun for penis stimulation. (Try the narrow ears on his frenulum, that sensitive, nerve-rich area where the glans meets the shaft on the underside of the penis.)

There are two more attachments that I did not receive — one turns the PalmPower into a rabbit (clitoral and vaginal stimulation) and the other is designed for G-spot stimulation.

6/267/14 update: I’ve tested the additional attachments. The “rabbit” doesn’t do much for me, but I was surprised to discover that I really like the G-spotter! Here’s why:

  1. It fits so snugly that the PalmPower becomes hands-free (!)
  2. The strongest vibrations are concentrated on the clitoris (where the cap presses), with more subdued vibrations right against the G-spot (where the internal part presses)
  3. You can play with tapping it, rocking it, or just letting it sit and vibrate. Yummy.

The Palm Power does have some cons, but I’ll overlook them because of all the pros:

  • It has to be plugged in while in use. (It comes with a nice, long cord, though, so you don’t have to station yourself near the wall socket.)
  • Only the silicone cap can be washed — the rest has to be wiped down without getting it wet. Be careful with the lube.

Hmmn, I think those are the only cons. It’s a fabulous product!

Thank you, The Smitten Kitten, for introducing me to the PalmPower and sending me my new best buddy in return for an honest review.

    Joan,
Grateful to have found your site. While checking out the Palm Power Recharge you mention above, I found reference to a newer model: the PALM POWER RECHARGE, which is ***WATERPROOF*** and $10.00 more than the Palm Power Recharge. Have you had a chance to review that model? I like the idea of something fully cleanable… Also can you suggest some reasonably priced lubricants that won’t stain the sheets?

    • Joan Price on November 4, 2020 at 7:47 pm

I haven’t tried the new waterproof model. Since the cap can be removed for cleaning, and that’s the only area that touches a body part, the Palm Power Recharge is super simple to clean. As for lube stains, I find that water-based lube cleans up easily in the laundry, as does Uberlube silicone lube.

Ever since I recently saw the Netflix “Grace and Frankie” episode – “Focus Group” where Grace and Frankie debut their new vibrator model, the “Menage a’ Moi,” I’ve been searching for a similar type – lightweight, silicone handle and head, flexible angles, glow-in-the-dark buttons, rechargeable, and waterproof. Unfortunatley, the “Menage a’ Moi” is not on the market. The Palm Power Recharge waterproof model sounds about as close as I will get, though a bit more pricey than I was budgeting for. In my research, I’ve also been reading that the silicone lubes are not good for silicone toys because they make the silicone tacky and ruin them. Is this also true for Uberlube? Thanks, I just found your site and liking what I see!

There are dozens of great senior-friendly vibrators, Minnie, which you’ll see if you keep reading my reviews. You’ll need to pay this price range for the quality of products I endorse, especially if you want silicone. Beware of cheap vibrators that claim to be silicone — they’re not, and no regulations prevent companies (especially in China) from making whatever claims they want. Re silicone lube — you’re right that it’s not compatible with silicone sex toys. You’ll need water-based. Most of the retailers I endorse also offer high quality water-based lubricants as well. Thanks for your comment, Minnie!

I’m 55 years old and have never used a vibrator.I recently had a very uncomfortable pelvic exam due to vaginal dryness.I also haven’t had sex in a few years. Would this particular model be a good choice for women with vaginal athrophy? Thanks so much! Annette.

    • Joan Price on February 5, 2019 at 8:15 pm

This is a clitoral vibrator, so it isn't inserted in the vagina at all (unless you use one of the penetrative attachments). Please use water-based lubricant.

I'm in my late 20s but have had arthritis since my teens thanks to disability. Today I've again realised I bungled up my wrist from last night's play (something I had to be brave to try with a prolapsed bladder!) and decided to check out the options. I am so incredibly pleased to know you're out there review things like this – and I'll have to check out the products you mention around. As a sex educator, I do like to make sure I know as much as I can for all the demographics out there! Thank you for this. You're doing beautiful work.

I have read some Amazon reviews posted in around the last months of 2014 saying their Palm Power began to rattle or buzz, run hot after a few minutes and some quite working and the warranty is only 30 days. How is yours doing after 7 months?

    • Joan Price on February 8, 2015 at 7:13 am

Mine's in perfect running order. I see one Palm Power that looks like mine on Amazon, but it has no customer reviews — I wonder if it was a knock-off version that was online for a while and removed. I also see a completely different "keychain" model with the same name, but it's not the same product at all. We have to be wary if there's a big price difference between what the stores I endorse charge and what you can buy on Amazon. It might be a knock-off.

    Joan,
you are right. My wife's favorite toy. What a difference. And boy am I smart to read and listen to you! And then order this one.
    +light
    +powerful w/ soft settings

+ cap snaps off for cleaning

Since I read about older women are into sex, I can,t stop visiting the web. I had a big problem with masturbation. I enjoyed masturbation but I feel so dammed guilty. Masturbation goes against God but I have feeling. I do have a husband that loves sex. We are seven years apart. I am older than him. I am sixty- five and he is fifty-nine. I am telling you that your topic is very interesting because I thought that I am a senior and sex is downhill for me. After reading about others sexing and buying vibrator. I bought the butterfly. In the meantime, I don't get how one uses the magic wand or palm could you explain !! Maggie

    • Joan Price on June 10, 2014 at 6:53 pm

Masturbation is healthy, joyful, and if we weren't supposed to do it, why were we designed with all those amazing nerve endings that respond to pleasure? Sex doesn't have to go downhill, but it may involve letting go of those old teachings that prohibit sex for pleasure.

As for how to use a vibrator, I hope you'll read my book, Naked at Our Age, which will give you plenty of eye-opening information. From there, you can start exploring.

I'm grateful to you for joining us, Tina — I hope you feel welcome here.

      Tina,
Joan is spot on here (double meaning). I'm in church almost every Sunday and have been a believer for 50 years. Self love is a family value in our home. My wife and I agree to do this ritual alone at least once a week to stay on our game as good lovers for each other. And, yes, we use vibrators in part because we are your age. I do my ritual outdoors naked, in the warm sunshine; so God and the angels can see. And they do.

Smitten Kitten was sold out so I bought my new Palm Power from Amazon, plus the rabbit and g-spot add-ons. Threw out my Magic Wand, which was just too heavy and the cord too short.

The Palm Power's standard head works great but I'm not so sure about the attachments. Maybe it's just me, but my orgasms with them seemed diffused and far away, like distant thunder. The rabbit was just annoying. Any suggestions on how to get more pleasure from them? I'm using good Blossom Organics lube.

    • Joan Price on May 6, 2014 at 9:54 pm

Good timing — I'll be receiving the attachments shortly, and I'll add an update to this post after I've tested them. Stay tuned!

      Oi! Still waiting!

    • Joan Price on June 27, 2014 at 8:49 pm

I just reviewed my favorite attachment — your wait is over, anonymous. Thank you for your patience and for the reminder.

Joan, so glad I had the opportunity to meet you and see the Palm Power in person. Buying it was the best decision because of the power of the vibe and the weight of it. It's so light. I was using the Magic Wand but that gets heavy after a while and as we older women know, it can take a while to orgasm. I also love that the plug detaches so you can take it to the bathroom wash it without dragging the cord with you. Great find. My new best friend.

Joan, love the photo! This looks like a much better toy than my Magic Wand–which is a favorite. My most used toy is the JimmyJane Form 4-solo or coupled.

I just discovered your blog and I am hooked. I'm a women in my 20's and this is one of the best and honest blogs I have come across. I wish that there were more product reveiwers like these.

    • Walker Thornton on April 25, 2014 at 10:33 am

Heather, Joan does a wonderful job of reviewing toys and talking about sex. Some of this really is universal.
