The web is exceptionally rich in Sexual Health-related information, but many of these sites contain spams or false content. Here we feature only quality social media resources.
NakedAtOurAge.com (AKA Better Than I Ever Expected: Sex & Aging) is the only blog honored by Webicina that focuses specifically on older-age sexuality, and I’m proud that our age group is being recognized here.
Webicina is dedicated to offering patients “the most relevant, curated, medical social media resources” covering 80+ medical topics, 3,000 resources, and 17 languages. Webicina.com was co-founded by Dr. Bertalan Mesko, the author of the award-winning medical blog, Scienceroll.com; speaker, health 2.0 consultant and innovator who has been helping physicians enter the social media era and empowered patients find medically reliable content online for years.
Last year this blog was ranked #10 of the top 100. It was the only one about senior sex, which made me especially proud.
Although I see that I’ve been nominated already, a few more nominations would let the judges see that we seniors, boomers, and elders value a blog about the sexual and sex-related issues that concern our age group specifically.
So, if you care to showcase our place in the sexuality blogosphere, please go here and tell them that Joan Price, blogger at www.nakedatourage.com (aka http://betterthanieverexpected.blogspot.com/) gets your nomination. You can nominate several blogs at the same time.
I’m not allowed to nominate my own blog — but I am allowed to beg!
It branched out into senior sex in the news, dating advice, and quirky items that caught my interest. When Robert died, the blog expanded to include grief, because part of loving at our age is losing each other.
These are some of the awards this blog received in 2010. I hope you’ll visit these sites that recognize the importance of talking out loud about senior sex:
Top 100 Sex Bloggers 2010 — ranked #10! And the only blog on this list that is both educational (rather than erotic) and deals with senior sex. Read the whole list here.
Aging Healthy: Top 50 Aging and Gerontology Blogs — the only sexuality blog on this list.
Seniors for Living: Top 100 Senior Blogs & Web Sites — one of just six blogs dealing with senior sex and dating.
Pioneer Emergency: Top Senior Related Blogs — the only sexuality blog on this list (find it under “Health and Fitness”). Pioneer is offering a special prize to one of our readers: three free months of Pioneer’s Medical Alarm System, which might be just the security that you or your loved one needs to summon medical attention with just the click of a pendant worn around the neck. I’ll give this prize to the first reader who contacts me and tells me why this prize would be valuable to you.
This blog is also on many blog rolls and resource lists, and I thank all of you for supporting what we do here. I’m thrilled that this blog has been embraced as a resource by such diverse communities. I applaud you for your acceptance of this topic that we just starting talking out loud about five years ago. I welcome your comments. I hope you’ll tell others what we’re doing here.
For new visitors to my blog: I am the author of Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk About Sex After Sixty and the upcoming Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud about Senior Sex. I started this blog after Better Than I Ever Expected was published in 2006 because I wanted to connect with my readers and continue the discussion about sex and aging.
This blog is all about senior/elder sexuality and related topics, including tips for improving sex at our age, reviews of sex toys from a senior perspective, books and films that look at senior sex, expert interviews, senior sex in the news, dating, and my personal love story. Because sex/love at our age does often involve loss, you’ll find posts about grief as well.
Read this blog via either http://betterthanieverexpected.blogspot.com/ and the easier to remember http://www.nakedatourage.com/. I hope you’ll visit often. I love comments, so please share your thoughts.
I’m so jazzed about being #10! Many thanks to Rori and her BetweenMySheets blog, and all the judges.
