“Joan Price’s unapologetic sexuality in her 80s represents a radical stand against gendered ageism.”

Background
In 2024, I told you about a documentary being made about me: “Want to be interviewed in a film?” So much has happened since then! Deirdre Fishel and her talented crew visited me three times, seven days of filming total. They filmed me working on my Senior Planet column, doing media interviews, consulting with a senior with sex questions, even teaching my line dance class — and most lately, getting married on July 23, 2026!

My private life was also filmed: from mundane things like washing my face to sexy highlights of enticing Mac to an afternoon delight. (Don’t worry — clothing stayed on, at least while the camera was running!) We did multiple interviews, and you’ll learn plenty about my life; my feelings; my views on aging, grief, and sex; my commitment to senior sex education. Mac was also interviewed, so you’ll get that side of the story, too.

Can you help?
The film is almost done, and I’m thrilled about it! But here’s the thing: it has become extremely difficult for independent films to get grants and other funding, despite the filmmaker’s stellar reputation and the quality of this movie. This has slowed down completion of the film. If my work has been valuable to you, or if you think a film about sex-positivity in older age needs to be out in the world, I hope you’ll donate here to move it to completion. Even a little bit helps!
A message from filmmaker Deirdre Fishel:
We live in a society that too often denies the sexuality of seniors. When I turned 60, I went looking for proof otherwise — and I found Joan Price. The moment I met her, I knew I wanted to make a film about her. Because Joan, at 82, is unapologetically sexual. She teaches something too often hidden in our society: sexuality changes, but it doesn’t have to end at 60, or 70, or 80.
After two years, the documentary, Ask Joan, is almost completed! Unfortunately, documentary funding is extremely difficult right now, and we need money to complete these tasks. We know we’ll get there, but we need donations.
If you possibly can, please help us. No donation is too small. Join us in helping to put Joan — an inspirational model of growing older sexually and vitally — in front of the world. Older people need to be validated, and younger people need to know the joy their future holds.

What was it like being filmed for a documentary? My answer.
Want to be interviewed in a film?
Have you or your relationship benefited from the work I do and the information I teach?

Have my books, articles, consults, or presentations made a strong impact on you or changed something about your life? Do you see aging and sexuality differently now than you used to?
If so, would you be willing to be interviewed about this in a documentary film?
Deirdre Fishel, a longtime independent filmmaker, is directing a documentary film about me, my work and its impact, my daily life, and my attitudes about aging, sex, love, and much more. Originally, the film was about older women who are reinventing old age and living productive, vibrant, sexual lives. It’s been reimagined as a shorter film featuring me. I am honored!

Joan’s morning ritual
Deirdre and her delightful film crew visited me for three days, filming my daily activities and interviewing me about both my personal life and my mission to help seniors embrace sexual pleasure. The crew is returning this summer for another shoot. I don’t know when the film will come out — it’s a process, a journey! — I’ll be sure to announce it here.

Deirdre knows what I think — now she wants to understand the impact of my work.
She’s eager to meet people whose lives have been changed in some way by my influence. She is looking for women and/or couples who might be willing to share their story. If you are interested in learning more, please email Deirdre Fishel to set up an exploratory call to discuss the project and what participating might entail.
1/10/25 UPDATE: You have the option to be be interviewed with only your voice recorded anonymously, if you’d be uncomfortable on camera or being identified. In that case, only Deirdre will know who you are, and I vouch for her ethics. If you’re happy to be on camera, we’ll make that happen!
7/5-7/25 UPDATE: The film crew returned for 3 more days. Wow, what a whirlwind. I’ll have lots of stories to tell! It’s impossible to know exactly when the film will be ready and released, but maybe a year from now. Deirdre is an extraordinary filmmaker with a vision and the skills to bring it to fruition. Her crew is also top-class. I’m learning a lot about how a documentary is made. So much more than I ever realized. The crew tells me that they are also learning from me! Some interesting conversations happened after the camera and mic were turned off!
