Badly Behaved for Women’s History Month 2014

Anna Gallagher, Publicity Assistant at Seal Press, invited Seal authors to send in a short video talking about our favorite feminist quote.

Anna will compile these into one video in honor of Women’s History Month, and we’ll share it widely as soon as it’s ready.

I knew right away which quote I’d choose, and I had a ton of fun making my video!
Here’s something you may not know about me: I don’t wait very well. In fact, my motto used to be, “The only problem with instant gratification is that it takes too long.” Clearly I couldn’t wait to share my video with you. Anna said I could go for it — so here it is:

Do you have a favorite quote for Women’s History Month? If so, I hope you’ll add it in a comment here.

3/18/14 update: Here’s the finished video from Seal with the favorite quotes of many Seal authors. I love the Anais Nin quote!

Age 69+ wanted to discuss sexuality in documentary film

Recently, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by TV documentary film makers Lauren Buongiovanni Hunt, Linda Duvoisin, and their crew about my older-age sexuality views, experiences, and attitudes.

It was a fabulous experience! The film project, titled “69 and Up! Sex and Intimacy in the Golden Years,” is intended to reveal the sexual wants and desires of people age 69 and over, presenting us positively and joyfully.

Would you like to be involved? Here is the call for volunteer participants from Lauren, both written and via video, explaining what she and Linda are looking for. Again, the experience was totally positive for me — respectful, fun, absolutely non-sleazy. I hope you’ll want to participate, too.

From Lauren Buongiovanni Hunt:

I’m making a documentary film that explores sexuality, intimacy and older adulthood. I have a belief that my desires and drive for intimacy and sex will remain present throughout my lifetime While they may change (and/or even grow!), they will remain present and intact as I grow older. It seems to me that as the generation of the ‘sexual revolution’ enters older adulthood our culture needs to undergo an attitudinal revolution about how we view older people and their sexuality. After all, more and more of us will grow to live in older adulthood. Yet, one does not need to look very far to see how our society values youth and eschews the possibilities of the beauty of sensuality in older adults.

The film, 69 and Up! Sex and Intimacy in the Golden Years, will interview sex experts, doctors, sociological professionals as well as older adults who are beautiful examples of what the possibilities can be. The purpose of the film is to portray that the science and the practice demonstrates that sexuality and intimacy in the latter part of life is alive and well.

I am seeking volunteers who are willing to share their story – straight, gay, married, dating, widowed, etc. – as long as you are willing to be open for the purpose of sharing your experiences for the purpose of illuminating the challenges, successes and joys of sex and intimacy in older adulthood. I am seeking both men and women.
Email me at for more information and/or questions about volunteering.

Adventures with Passionate U/ Kink Academy

“I own the sex-education websites and,” began the email from Kali, “and I would love to feature you as an educator with a focus on sex & aging.” Kali went on to explain that she and her crew were coming to San Francisco to film several sex educators, and she hoped I would agree to a two- to three-hour video shoot.

I was nervous about the photo shoot. I’m very comfortable talking for a few hours about the different sexual challenges that face us as we age and offering the solutions I’ve learned from the experts in Naked at Our Age–but would my respectful style be right for this edgy, explicit site?

It turns out we were a perfect match. Kali and her videographer, Gray, made me feel comfortable right away and were so enthusiastic about my work that I felt like Queen of the World. Three hours flew by as I discussed topics such as lack of desire, unreliable erections, safer sex, the importance of self-pleasuring, sex toys, and more. My video clips will be available at PassionateU soon. For now, watch this one.

This screen shot doesn’t really play. To view the video, click here.

What is Passionate U about? As the “About Us” section explains,

This is not the “sex education” you received in junior high!
You’ve grown up and so should your sex ed!
PassionateU provides authentic and straight-forward sexuality instruction for consenting (and adventurous) individuals looking to take their sexual knowledge further. Curious adults seeking to explore their fantasies come to PU to learn from experts who are passionate about helping you to improve your sex life!
Firstly, all the basics will be covered; How to put a condom on, positive sexual vocabulary, communication for partners, and so forth. After you’ve got all of that down, we get to REALLY spice up the curriculum by showing you lessons on erotic spanking, dirty talk and much, much more!

How are the two sites different? Both offer grown-up sex ed through graphic video clips. Passionate U is the tamer of the two, offering topics such as how to put on a condom properly, foot fetish, breast worship, comfortable positions for cunnilingus, and cleaning a silicone dildo. But it pushes the edges of “tame” with instructional videos on vaginal fisting, cock slapping, and more. Sometimes the educators are clothed talking heads; other times they’re nude, demonstrating (often with an assistant) the techniques they’re teaching.

Kink Academy is, as the name implies, the kinky site — bondage “how-to”s, whips, caning, collars, you get the picture. If you’re into or interested in kinky sex play, here’s where you can learn all about it through graphic, instructional videos. As the site explains,

Kink Academy is the Web’s leading resource for adult sexuality education in BDSM, polyamory, fetish, kink, swinging, and other sexual expressions that are commonly overlooked even in sex-positive educational materials. Our belief is that sexuality is a creative outlet that goes far beyond a few humdrum maneuvers in the bedroom, and that all safe and consensual interests are and worthy of validation.

The sites aren’t free, nor should they be — they pay the instructors. You can view a few videos free before deciding to subscribe, including one of mine. You can sample a month of unlimited access for $14.95, 3 months for $29.95, or join for a year for $100.

Joan Price Talks About Senior Sex: the video

A few minutes ago, I shared the 1-1/2 minute book trailer video for Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud about Senior Sex. That was the quickie video.

Want to know more? Below is the 3 minute video, containing some of the same content with more background and context. I discuss some of the myths about senior sex and share why I wrote both Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk about Sex After Sixty and Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud about Senior Sex.

As I say in the video, the two books are a team: Better Than I Ever Expected celebrates the joys of senior sex; Naked at Our Age tackles the problems head-on, with advice from the best experts in the field.

Of course, I have a lot more to say about senior sex than I can cover in 3 minutes. If you’d like to bring me to your city to talk out loud about ageless sexuality, see my speech topics and please contact me.

Many thanks to Mitch Rice and Stephen Rice for helping me create this video for you!
